Moving Mountains – Jimmy Stokes

This talk will be preceded by the AGM

Almost 60 years to the day after the Aberfan disaster, Jimmy Stokes will tell us about his latest novel, Moving Mountains.

The story begins with one of the darkest days in Welsh history when a collapsing coal tip buried Pantglas School, killing 116 children and 28 adults.

Out of this tragedy emerges Eleri Jones, a survivor whose life will come to symbolise both the enduring scars of Aberfan and the resilience of a community. Training as a doctor, her actions will thrust Aberfan’s name back into the global spotlight in the complex area of geopolitics and the fight against extremism.

Spanning decades and continents, Moving Mountains illuminates the lasting cost of putting profit before people, the collective strength that rises from unimaginable grief and the universal struggle against violence in all its forms.

Copies of Jimmy’s books will be available to buy at this event (cash payment preferred).
