Hands-on Family History Session at Monmouth Library
genealogy

Due to our planned guest speaker having to cancel her talk for personal reasons, we are bringing forward our “Hands-on” session at the Library to this month. This is a change to our usual meeting times due to the availability of a large room in the library with 7 laptops and free online access to Ancestry, Find My Past and British Newspaper Archives. These are all invaluable tools to help your Family History research and plot your Family Tree using the latest IT programs and apps! For those in the group who have not yet used Ancestry etc, this is an ideal opportunity to try them out for free, with help from experienced members of the group and/or library staff. For experienced users of these resources, please come along to help those who are new to these things! As the room can accommodate around 10-12 people at a time, please choose a 1½ hour slot – either 2pm – 3.30pm or 3.30pm – 5pm and let Aidan know in advance, as soon as possible. The library is closed to the public over the lunch break 1pm – 2pm but the room will be set up ready for you at 2pm. Bring along anything that you’d like to tackle: e.g. your hand-drawn family tree that you’d like to start to put on Ancestry or FMP, or information that you’d like to look into more with the online search facilities available. If this sort of session works, we may look into holding more in the future. Tea & coffee making facilities are available at the library.
