A Demonstration of a Dwarf Mini Smart Telescope
Colin Carter
We’ve had to postpone Keith Moseley’s planned talk on Saturn since he’s no longer available. However our member Colin Carter has very kindly come forward to give us a demonstration of the Dwarf Mini Smart Telescope that he’s recently acquired.
This demonstration will look at one of the devices on the market that makes astrophotography simple and (more) affordable. It effectively combines a telephoto lens camera, tracking mount and stacking software into one package that is controlled by a smartphone app. The talk will include results of imaging deep sky objects, the moon and sun, control of the device using the app and will attempt (weather permitting) live imaging of the sun.
(This talk depends upon the integration of a few components as yet untested! In the event of a problem plan B is a talk entitled “A Brief History of the Calendar”. This covers the development of the modern calendar from the Babylonians to the Leap Second.)
The talk is free for members who have an annual subscription to the Astronomy Group in force.

Any other u3a members are welcome to attend but please bring £2.50 towards venue hire.
