All u3a groups are encouraged to engage with their local community and Monmouth u3a members are already very active in this. Another opportunity has been announced:

Hands Around the World are seeking to launch an informal ‘Hands On Group’ of men and women willing to be asked for advice and help in whatever category.

They plan to start with a pub gathering locally at The Punch House, Agincourt Square, Monmouth at 7.30pm on Tuesday 18 February.

Hands Around the World aims to bring together volunteers to offer specialist help and advice at times in particular fields:

• Various IT areas

• Various building areas including plumbing, solar, water/sanitation

• Various education areas including pre-school, special needs, vocational training, carpentry, mechanics, engineering

• Various medical areas including nursing, physio

• Various agricultural areas including permaculture, irrigation, soil studies

• Various admin areas including management training, accounting, legal advice

[Relevant training and experience are of course vital. In many situations, time spent in developing world locations is necessary and highly important.]
