“My God! It’s full of stars” – My journey in Astrophotography

We’re fortunate to be able to welcome Gordon Haynes while he’s visiting this area. He has provided this synopsis:

“After I gave up competitive cycling I took up astrophotography with dedicated equipment and started on the long ladder of learning the intricate ways of taking detailed deep sky images. As I progressed I was lucky to get the opportunity of beta testing an all in one imaging system from Tele Vue and FLI in America and some of the results can be seen in my presentation.

“Due to a change of circumstances and location I was no longer able to do this but I then started doing time lapse and nightscapes with standard off the shelf cameras and due to worsening osteoarthritis I got rid of my last bike and got myself a recumbent trike. This gave me a new lease of freedom and I can now do my three favourite things all at once so I now organise overnight trips with all my camera gear, thermal clothing, food and drink, etc loaded on a trailer and towed behind my trike.

“During my presentation I will talk about how all this came about, how I prepare for and plan trips and the processes involved as well as the potential dangers and how to overcome them. The presentation will finish with a selection of my work in the form of some video set to music.”
