For our September meeting, we welcome Neil Havard from the Cotswold Astronomical Society to talk on ‘Light Pollution and the Quest for Dark Skies’. As well as being an amateur astronomer, Neil is an Environmental Scientist who has worked with the Cotswold Conservation Trust in attempting to get Dark Sky Status for the AONB in the Cotswolds, and has carried out a survey of the current state of light pollution for the Highways Agency. His talk will describe sources of light pollution, how it was measured, and its impact on the night sky and on wildlife. He will explain his recommendations and talk about how to minimise light pollution, while not being expected to live in total darkness.
